This text informs us of the new extension at Ohio State University, which was designed for architecture, city and regional planning and landscape architecture students. This is described as a state of the art facility, which was very important to the school and its well-known architecture program. I have looked at this building in the past through my research as I am very interested in modern architecture and have gained knowledge and inspiration from new materials and the innovative form that this contemporary architecture shows.
This building was designed with the clients in mind, as a student this is interesting as I can relate it to the university building I am currently in and also my belief that design should stem from the clients initial needs. The space should be a successful functional space as well as aesthetically pleasing and this is a prime example.
The exterior of the building encompasses the external environment in terms of the landscape, ramps and inclines create cohesion with the exterior and interior and highlights the landscaping more than the flat sites around the rest of the campus.
All three courses have been considered in this design and their needs assessed and I believe that the building allows the students to reach their full potential by encompassing their surroundings.
All of these factors are beneficial for me as a designer to be able to create a space that fit the needs of my client, whatever the project, and allow them to develop and grow without limitations.
