In this extract several points stood out to me despite not necessarily being the most talked about topics in the writing. I think this is due to my interest in these areas originally, in previous design projects and architects I have researched.
Louis Barragan (1902-1988) born in Mexico was a modernist architect. What first caught my attention was the statement that his work had influenced many contemporary building designs but I had not heard of him or seen his work. I realised my knowledge about British architects is a lot deeper than architects outside of the UK. Knowing how much architects influence each other world wide, (in terms of Barragan Ricardo Legoretta, Andrea Casillas and Enrique Norton) has made me realise I need to broaden and increase my knowledge to fully appreciate architecture and to allow me to progress and reach my full potential.
After the essay I wrote featuring Brutalist architecture I became very interested in the utopian vision and how it has influence many modern designs. The utopian vision combined with a unified Mexican style is what drove Louis Barragans designs. His work showed a design that was pure and simple. It is said that his work is associated with Neo-Plasticity of De Stijl and Bauhaus. His house and studio in particular feature a strong link with geometry, in particular circles.
Although the extract went into further detail, which I found interesting and will continue to research. These points are what stood out to me the most and what I feel I will initially take with me into my own work.
