I enjoy the work of the architect Adolf Loos and I found the extract interesting but I thought that it could have been conveyed in a more engaging way. Adolf Loos had a significant impact on the architecture we see today and the extract gave us examples of architects that were influenced by Loos, such as Le Corbusier. I enjoy seeing which architects have been influenced so that I can have a greater understanding when I come to look at their work. It gives it more meaning and significance when I can fully appreciate it.
Loos supported the English Arts and Crafts movement and was passionate about travelling. The influences in his work that stem from the Anglo- American culture reflect how well travelled he was. In the future I hope to travel and possibly live abroad before moving back to the UK. I hope that what I learn and pick up in this time will be beneficial to my design work and my any interests would influence my design.
The exterior of the building is very captivating as it the intention was to portray and relate to the architectural controversies at the time. The same is said with the basement and upper floor apartments, showing the contrast between ornamental and the raw stripped back architecture.
I was slightly confused about some of the information that was being discussed but further research on my behalf and a better understanding as I develop and progress should hopefully aid my understanding and help fill in any gaps.
